Training of Trainers on peacebuilding
FAsCE India, in collaboration with Fransalian Youth Mission (FYM), organised the second of its four Training of Trainers (ToT) on ‘youth for peacebuilding’ at its head office from April 16-19, 2015.

A total of 28 youth and four coordinators from the three Siang districts (East, West and Upper) of Arunachal Pradesh participated in the programme. A team of experts from Peace Channel, Nagaland, namely Fr CP Anto, the founder and director, Mr Zephery Lugun and Ms Judith Huidina, peace trainers, animated the sessions.

“This training on peacebuilding reflects the passion and legacy we share with our youth, trusting in their capacity to carry it forward and ignite the communities they represent. Through this programme, we would like to invest our youth with necessary knowledge and skills to be agents of peace, able to resolve conflicts and stay untied amidst challenges against peace,” said Mr Shaji Fernandez, the chief programme coordinator, FAsCE India, introducing the programme.

“The goal of this project is to promote grassroots level movement for peace and harmony in the seven states of Northeast India by building a network of youth willing to work for peace among all people under the aegis of Fransalian Youth Mission,” said Fr (Dr) Emmanuel Mappilaparambil, the executive director, FAsCE India, welcoming the guests and participants.

Fr (Dr) Emmanuel Uppamthadathil, MSFS, the vice-president of FAsCE India, inaugurated the programme and Fr George Poovathunkal, MSFS, the principal of SFS School, Narengi, delivered the key-note address.

“As the world today passes through an environment full of tension, violence, declining values, injustices, intolerance and neglect of human rights, we need genuine agents of peace who take responsibility for life, listen to others and apologise for failures,” said Fr Poovathunkal, enlightening and inspiring the participants.

Aimed at building a network of youth, willing to work for peace and harmony among people, the training equipped the participants with necessary knowledge and skills to deal with conflicts and promote peace in the society.

“The training opened my eyes unto various kinds of conflicts existing in the society, initiated me into the world of genuine harmony and instilled in me an ardent desire to be a channel of peace wherever I am,” said Aker Pikyor, a participant from Tato, one of the far-flung villages of Arunachal Pradesh.
